GPS Success

Admittedly, the subject in this photo has nothing to do with GPS equipment or tracking. But today’s experiment resulted in a major “win” for my future cataloging process. Although I have always wanted to tag each of my photos with GPS coordinates when captured, I have never had any interest in purchasing a special add-on geolocation dongle for my camera. Lucky for me, there is a free app on Android smart phones called “My Tracks”, that will easily record your path when walking around. Import the resultant GPX files into Lightroom 4 and voilĂ ! You can easily tag all of your photos with GPS location information after the fact. It’s automated since Lightroom uses the time at which each photo was taken to look up your smart phone’s GPS location at that particular time. Very cool! :-)
